The BIONEXT project has published four new policy briefs offering practical insights on how justice, responsible AI, integrated policy guidance, and biodiversity nexus modelling can help accelerate transformative change towards a nature-positive Europe.

Transformative change does not result from isolated actions. Our sixth Policy Brief explores the mechanisms of how different actions interact and reinforce one another over time. It shows how these interactions can create broader pathways towards a nature-positive future while supporting human well-being and socio-economic development. As environmental decisions become increasingly complex, decision-makers need tools to navigate competing objectives and uncertainties. Our seventh Policy Brief introduces BIONEXT’s AIDA tool and provides guidance on the responsible use of generative AI in environmental decision-making — with a focus on transparency, participation, accountability, and trust.

Our eighth Policy Brief brings BIONEXT research together and translates outputs into practical recommendations for policymakers. It highlights the role of nexus thinking, justice, bottom-up initiatives, and cross-sectoral actions in driving transformative change. Finally, our ninth Policy Brief, looks towards 2050, uses biodiversity nexus modelling to explore pathways to a nature-positive Europe in 2050. While the pathways reflect different societal values and approaches, the results show that there are multiple routes to sustainability—and that positive outcomes can be achieved when policies address shared environmental challenges.

Together, the four briefs connect the mechanisms, tools, policy approaches, and modelling insights needed to turn transformative change from an ambition into action.
